Rhino (Kifaru)
-Rhinos are endangered animals poached nearly to extinction
-Horn used for ceremonial dagger handles in the Middle East and aphrodisiac in traditional Chinese medicine.
-There are 2 types of Rhino-black (has a hooked, pointed lip) and a white (has a squared lip) (color is same)
-The horns are made of keratin and average about 20 inches in length on the black rhino
-About 50% of male and 30% of female Black rhinos die from intra-species fights.
-Black rhinos run on their toes and can go as fast as 35 mph.
-The black rhino browses on leaves, thorny bushes, fruit and leafy plants. The white rhino is a grazer who eats grass.
-White rhinos can live up to 45 years old in the wild.
-The gestation period of black rhinos is 15 to 16 months.
-Mother rhinos are very nurturing. The young stay with them until they are approx 3 years old.
